Paws crossed for a great adoption week/month/year for all animals…..Spay/Neuter works! Do it, share it!

“Flea and Tick Season” is here! Did you know that fleas are not only annoying but they can also be dangerous to your pet? Fleas are more than just insects that bite and suck your pet's blood. Yes, fleas can also transmit parasites to your pet including various worms! They are preventable!

The most common and annoying disease caused by fleas is flea-allergy dermatitis. Some dogs and cats are allergic to the flea saliva and just one bite will cause them to be miserable. Dogs and cats with flea allergies will scratch resulting in hair loss and skin lesions, even from just one flea.

The best way to prevent all of these conditions is to prevent the fleas! There are many safe and effective preventative medications available from a veterinarian for just this purpose. Many of the supermarket/discount store/over-the-counter “preventatives” are not safe and can be very dangerous. It is best to purchase from your vet. Some products also include a Heartworm preventative. These preventative medications should be used every month in Tennessee - not just in the summer months!

Most of the cats and kittens will be at PetSmart, Turkey Creek Friday-Sunday 5/18-20 for a huge adoption event….bring a carrier (or two). All ages and colors 8 weeks old and older!

Do you need to add to your spring wardrobe? Check out the MCFA Thrift Store run entirely by volunteers. Clean, gently used items at great prices. Spring cleaning? Donate to the store (and the animals). Donations are greatly appreciated and are accepted Wednesday-Saturday from 10 am-3:30 pm. All proceeds go to help the homeless animals of Monroe County. It's located at 884 Englewood St. in Madisonville (next to Douglas Cherokee). Like us on Facebook for up to date sale information

Shelter Needs: Lots of scoopable/clumping cat litter (Tidy Cat), paper towels, laundry detergent, copy paper, bleach, Q-tips, cotton balls, and Original blue Dawn-all cleaning & office supplies are always needed!

Thank you to the volunteers who continue to be faithful in coming to help us at the shelter, we appreciate you so much!
