It takes much planning to bring our animals to an adoption event - is it worth it, especially when the adoption numbers aren't great? YES for many reasons. The animals get a chance to be out of the shelter environment for a day where they will experience special attention. We raise awareness for shelter animals. We network with animal rescue groups and PetSmart staff. Because of our participation, PetSmart donates several boxes of much needed cat and dog food for the shelter. The public shows their appreciation for what we do by donating cash to our donations box. None of this just happens - it takes volunteers. There are so many ways that you can help. Give the shelter a call at 423-442-1015.

MCAS, along with many other open admission shelters across the country are finding their kennels constantly full. The shelter stats for this week show an intake of 72 animals, even though the County Animal Control officer was on vacation and we were closed for the holiday. Eight animals were adopted, 28 transferred to our rescue partners and 1 dog was returned to its owner. Thanks to rescue groups and transports, we are able to save many more lives and open our kennels to receive even more homeless animals. There is a lot involved in preparing the animals for transport - trips to veterinarians for health certificates and required vaccines, bathing, socializing and in some cases, short-term foster care. You can help. It takes a village to help care for our lost and lonely.

Shelter Needs: Lots of scoopable/clumping cat litter (Tidy Cat), paper towels, laundry detergent, copy paper, bleach, Q-tips, cotton balls, and Original blue Dawn-all cleaning & office supplies are always needed!

Thank you to the volunteers who continue to be faithful in coming to help us at the shelter, we appreciate you so much!
