Spay Neuter Assistance for Pets:

Please copy the attached poster with the next voucher issue dates, share it with your friends & neighbors, send it to your organization contacts, and post it in your community where ever possible. Also attached is a ½ page SNAP schedule that can be given to people who have intact pets. If you do FaceBook, attached is a JPEG file that you can post.

World Spay Day is February 27 this year. It is celebrated internationally. You can celebrate it by getting a free voucher to spay/neuter your dogs and cats.

2017 was a banner year for SNAP as 1632 s/n surgeries were completed. About 1000 cats were fixed. Continued steady progress was made towards the goal of a Shelter that does not euthanize healthy dogs & cats. See attached line graph.

SNAP will issue FREE spay/neuter vouchers to low income Monroe County residents on Saturday, February 24 from 10 – 11am at the Tellico Plains Community Center, 132 Bank Street, Tellico Plains. A picture ID or other proof of residency is required.

The next SNAP voucher issue sessions are scheduled:

  • February 24 at Tellico Plains Community Center from 10 to 11am
  • April 7 at Madisonville Cora Veal Senior Center from 10 to 11am
  • May 5 at Vonore Community Center from 10 to 11am
A pet owner can receive multiple vouchers, enough to “fix” all their cats and dogs.

In 2017 more than 9 cats were euthanized for every dog put down -- even though the dog Intake of 1645 was far greater than the cat Intake of 1035. This is why SNAP is again emphasizing Cats this year.

We must reduce the Monroe County Cat population. We must spay/neuter many more cats, especially free roaming cats, barn cats, neighborhood cats, stray & feral cats -- any cat that can be placed in a carrier and taken to the vet. SNAP Free spay/neuter vouchers can be used to fix these cats.

Any qualified low income resident of Monroe County can obtain free spay/neuter vouchers at the voucher issue sessions. If someone cannot attend a SNAP voucher issue session, a friend or relative can pick up a voucher - proof of residence and information about pet owner & pet must be provided.

Funding to pay for the vouchers to be issued is provided by grants from: PetSmart Charities, Petco Foundation, Bernice Barbour Foundation, Williamson County Humane Association, Onshore Foundation, and Monroe County Friends of Animals (MCFA).
